For those concerned about safety, Volvo has made a pledge: By 2020, no one will be killed or seriously injured in a new Volvo car or SUV.

"With the development of full autonomy we are going to push the limits of automotive safety," states Volvo safety engineer Erik Coelingh, "because if you make a fully autonomous vehicle you have to think through everything that potentially can happen with a car."

Most of the technology that is required for autonomous driving is already available from the Volvo brand. When you go above and beyond, combining features like Adaptive Cruise Control, Auto lane keeping assist, Collision avoidance, Pedestrian detection, and Large animal detection, it will typically make the vehicle crash proof. Now, that's what we call peace of mind behind the wheel.
